Job title: Seasonal Internship
Campus : St. Luke's - Rodale Institute Organic Farm, Easton, PA
Duration : Now - November 1, 2024
Compensation: Hourly Wage, Onsite Housing Available
The St. Luke's Organic farm is a partnership between the Rodale Institute and the St. Luke's University Health Network (SLUHN) to create an innovative farm to hospital model. We provide a CSA & wholesale orders to the SLUHN. The farm grows annual and perennial crops using organic techniques. Applicants are encouraged to have prior agricultural and/or holistic health experience but is not required. This position is best for individuals who are prepared to work full time in a professional farming environment for their internship duration of choice. Seasonal Interns report directly to the Farm Manager.
Responsibilities include: - Execute day to day farm operations
- Greenhouse duties: seeding, watering, plant care
- Field work: weeding, pruning, plasticulture, row cover, transplanting, harvesting
- Irrigation installation, maintenance, removal
- Organic Pest Management
- Harvesting produce
- Packhouse duties: washing, sorting, packing
- Maintain equipment, tools and spaces to be functional
- Facilities: repairing infrastructure, sanitation, compost, event preparation, landscaping
- Follow all food safety protocols
- Keep records of all farm activities to be submitted daily
Candidate Qualifications - Able to operate equipment safely, training will be provided
- Valid Driver's License
- Preferred that applicant will pursue a career supported by organic agricultural experience
- Able to work independently, in a team, and lead farm tasks
- Able to adapt to repetitive tasks & the demanding changes of the farm
- Able to lift 50 lbs., and be on feet for 8 hours a day
- Willing to engage with a dynamic & practical learning environment
- Willing to work in all weather conditions
Schedule: 40 + hours/week, Monday - Friday with rotating weekend shifts.
Travel: May be required for this position
