Job overview

As our CAD Designer, you’ll create 3D models and detailed technical drawings from specifications, prior layouts, well-defined sketches, models, or verbal instructions sufficient for detailing various needs of the engineering department. You’ll be knowledgeable in all industry standards. You’ll also support quality control, making continuous improvements, and team building at Speedway Motors.

Here are the specifics:

• Designs new product with substantial input from engineering and other team members.
• Prepare and edit drawings from Engineer layouts using SolidWorks.
• Revise and update existing drawings reflecting design changes from shop or R&D.
• Create drawings from samples and make new part numbers as required after business acquisition.
• Review blueprints, specifications, and drawings to ensure consistent accurate documentation of parts.
• Reverse engineer parts using laser scanner and 3D printer as needed to build it graphically.
• Document the drawings, dimensions, material needed and aspects of material; estimate the labor and process time to make the part in the shop.
• Accurately create Bills of Materials (BOM’s) in SOP for the Machine Shop to create specified products.
• Take requests from Jira as requested from QC and other departments.
• Maintain all drawings and documentation in Engineering projects folder for reference using the Product Data Management (PDM).
• Constantly work to improve processes; make suggestions for productivity improvements, and optimize team member workflow, while continuing to meet our customers’ needs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Work Environment

• Ability to rarely lift and carry <20 lbs. and rarely push/pull up to 50 lbs.
• Constant sitting or standing (may choose sit-down or stand-up desk).
• Occasional walking.
• Rare bending/reaching, twisting.
• Constant pinching, grasping, fine manipulation with fingers to use computer and phone and tools as needed.
• Heated and air-conditioned indoor work.

What you’ll need to succeed in this position:

• Associate’s degree in Drafting or Engineering with 0-3 years of experience.
• Knowledge of Solid Works CAD platform and Microsoft Office suite.
• Impeccable attention to detail.
• Strong written and documentation skills a must.
• Ability to multi-task and prioritize their importance is critical to department.
• Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
