Job Description
Carpenters build and install structures and fixtures in residential or commercial buildings or on construction sites. Duties can include:
Construction
Following blueprints and building plans to construct and install building frameworks, such as walls, floors, and doorframes.
Installation
Installing structures and fixtures, such as windows, molding, stairs, furniture, and shop fittings. They may also install trim, hardware, and cabinetry.
Repair
Inspecting and replacing damaged frameworks or other structures and fixtures. They may also repair and renovate wooden structures or perform drywall repairs.
Other tasks
Measuring, cutting, and shaping wood, plastic, and other materials. They may also erect scaffolding and ladders to assemble structures above ground levels.
