Position: Entry-Level Firefighter
The Bellevue Fire Department is currently accepting applications for Entry-Level Firefighter positions. The hiring process will begin in May 2025 for a fire academy starting in December 2025. Candidates must provide a valid CPAT completed between May 2024 and May 2025.
Compensation
Hourly: $46.55 - $59.19
Monthly: $8,069.36 - $10,259.83
Annually: $96,832.27 - $123,117.96
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Job Summary
Firefighters perform general firefighting and emergency medical care duties under hazardous conditions, which may require strenuous physical exertion. This role also involves station maintenance, equipment upkeep, public education, and administrative tasks.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Fire Response:
Lay and connect hoses, operate nozzles, direct water streams, and ventilate structures.
Drive and operate fire apparatus such as pumps and ladder trucks.
Use equipment like extinguishers, bars, and hooks in fire suppression.
Rescue and Medical Services:
Remove individuals from danger and administer emergency medical care.
Provide first aid and basic life support.
Maintenance and Training:
Perform upkeep of department property, apparatus, and equipment.
Participate in fire drills and emergency medical training.
Public Safety and Administrative Tasks:
Inspect buildings for fire hazards.
Conduct public education programs on fire and medical safety.
Assist with administrative tasks such as data entry, mapping, and report writing.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of fire suppression techniques.
Ability to perform physically demanding tasks under adverse conditions.
Capability to achieve and maintain Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Paramedic certification.
Aptitude for learning various firefighting methods and duties.
Education, Experience, and Requirements
Education: High school diploma, vocational school certificate, or GED equivalent.
Certifications:
Maintain or achieve Washington State EMT certification.
Possess a valid Washington State driver's license.
Standards: Meet medical, psychological, and physical requirements prescribed by the department.
Physical Demands
Work involves walking, talking, hearing, handling tools, and reaching.
Vision requirements include close, distance, peripheral, and depth perception, along with focus adjustment.
