Job Purpose Job Title: Equipment Operator B
Location: Waltham
Key Accountabilities Operate a tractor trailer or dump truck with high/low bed trailers and load/unload heavy equipment or materials. Operate heavy equipment on or around energized conductors; i.e., drill rigs, backhoe, excavator, bulldozer, truck crane, conventional crane, assorted tracked vehicles, and Transmission conductor installation machinery. Delivery of fuel products to support National Grid projects.
Installation/removal of utility poles, excavating roadways, digging utility pole holes, installing and running conductor, delivering material and equipment.
Perform all duties while adhering to National Grid Safety and Environmental standards.
Respond to emergency calls during off hours which may require overnight stays and perform duties in adverse conditions
Ability to operate equipment and perform manual labor or other duties as directed in various environmental conditions in a transmission right of way.
Operate in a team environment.
Perform all other work as required by the job, examples are but not limited to groundwork, delivering stock, digging pole holes by hand shovel.
Qualifications •Possession of a valid, unrestricted Class A Driver's License with an air brake endorsement and ability to obtain Hazardous Material endorsement. Hold an up-to-date DOT Medical Certificate.
•Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
•Have five years' experience driving and operating heavy equipment similar to equipment used by National Grid Transmission Line Services department with a minimum 2 years' experience working in electric utility industry preferred.
•Ability to drive/operate all types of vehicles/equipment in the TLS department under, at times, adverse conditions, in a safe manner.
•Require a 2A Hoisting license in at least one state within our operating area with the ability to obtain licenses in other states as deemed necessary.
•Must be able to read and write English Language legibly.
•Demonstrate an ability to follow written or oral directions.
•Be physically able bodied and a safe and careful worker.
•Work under adverse weather conditions during emergencies
•Be available for scheduled and unscheduled overtime.
•Accept assignments anywhere within service territory.
•Become familiar with company standards and work methods.
•Have the ability to progress to crane operations in work methods involving live line energized work.
•Have the ability to obtain federal crane operators license, and state crane operator's license endorsed by OSHA as required by each of the New England States where Transmission Line work is performed by the Service Company (VT. NH and MA).
•Must be able to successfully pass all training and licensing requirements to progress to next step; failure to do so will result in disqualification from the department.
NOTE
•Final Awarding of the Job(s) is contingent upon the applicant(s) successful completion of the Field Assessment Test.
•Employees hired into this position will follow under the guidelines of the 8-year agreement.
