Description Under immediate supervision, performs responsible semi-skilled work in the operation of motorized equipment; does related work as required.
Examples of Duties Operates bulldozer; heavy front-end loader; operates self-loading pan; operates a trackhoe; operates large motor grader in leveling ground surfaces, street and construction repair; operates grade-all; operates snowplow; services and make minor repairs and adjustments on equipment when not operation heavy equipment, operates lighter equipment or trains other operators; may supervise workers and operators assisting in the work.
Typical Qualifications Education and Experience :
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to completion of the eleventh grade and considerable experience in operation of heavy equipment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :
General knowledge of the principles and practices of operation and servicing heavy construction equipment; thorough knowledge of the traffic laws and regulations governing equipment operation; thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards involved and the safety precautions necessary to the proper operation of varied construction and maintenance equipment, skill and care in the operation of several types of trucks and specialized maintenance and construction equipment; ability to understand an follow oral and written directions; mechanical aptitude; ability to make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment.
Able to work 12 hour shifts 7 days a week during ice and snow removal. Supplemental Information Special Requirements - Possession of a valid North Carolina Unrestricted Commercial Class A Driver's License.
