Job Summary This position provides sophisticated graphic design services and creative consultation on behalf of Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA). The designer is skilled in visual storytelling, including the ability to translate technical, scientific, bureaucratic, and legal language into clear and effective visual communications products suitable for information, education, outreach, and multimedia marketing efforts. They support multiple different areas of the agency, working closely with communications teammates and collaborating with designers in other state agencies enterprise to ensure strong adherence to the State of Minnesota brand. Successful candidates are creative and have visual storytelling abilities to advance the agency's mission and goals. The position is part of the Communications and Outreach section and reports to the creative services manager. MPCA is committed to ensuring that every Minnesotan has healthy air, sustainable lands, clean water, and a better climate.
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Two (2) years of professional experience in graphic design. A bachelor's degree in graphic design, photography, marketing or similar creative discipline may substitute for 1 year of experience.
Experience creating icons, infographics, social graphics, multipage reports with demonstrated ability to incorporate strong typography and layout skills.
Experience using Adobe Creative Cloud applications including Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, and Acrobat Pro.
Brand management experience and the ability to be a champion for cohesive design throughout the agency.
Understanding/commitment to communicating with stakeholders while using diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) principles to create an inclusive work environment.
Experience in photography.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications Experience developing campaigns and creating compelling, cohesive visuals for print, web, email and other digital media.
Understanding of the essential principles of plain language.
Demonstrated ability to apply and complete accessibility requirements using desing best practices.
Demonstrated ability to apply and complete accessibility requirements in Creative Suite including Acrobat Pro.
Accomplished planning, organizational, and problem-solving skills to meet project priorities, objectives, and deadlines.
