A Chapter of the Association of Legal Administrators Duvera Consulting’s client, an international top tier law firm with headquarters in Houston, is searching for an HR Manager or Director (depending on experience) due to an upcoming retirement. The person in the position now has been there for over 20 years! It’s a fabulous place to work! There is room for growth as the CHRO would like to mentor this person to become her successor one day! The Human Resources Manager/Director is the primary HR support for the Houston office and provides additional support to the CHRO for HR functions in other US offices. Responsibilities: Provides HR administrative support and leadership to staff and attorneys. Manage and recommend staffing needs by planning and identifying changing needs of the firm, including establishing the attorney, paralegal/legal secretarial assignments. Develops and maintains positive relationships with attorneys and staff; helps prepare staff meetings; seeks training and development opportunities; responds to inquiries regarding policies, procedures, and programs using discretion and good judgment; investigates work-related accidents/issues and prepares reports, escalates unresolved issues to the CHRO. Provides advice and counsel to employees regarding employee relations issues as well as discussing appropriate actions and alternatives. Ensures maintenance and upkeep of files which includes updates to HRIS system including new hire user-provisioning, change of status, terminations, data entry, and any applicable updates, as needed. Plans and coordinates office events including business professionals appreciation week. Works with managers on organizational planning and needs which includes creating recruiting strategies for open positions, interviewing, and managing the hiring and onboarding process in conjunction with the HR Specialist. Manages intern programs. Manages Leave of Absences and communicates with employees regarding status. Coordinates LOA in conjunction with Short Term Disability, FMLA leave, Maternity and Parental Leave programs; handles recordkeeping and communications. Ensures compliance with federal regulations pertaining to ADA, EEO, FMLA, OSHA and FLSA. Maintains a current knowledge of applicable laws, rulings and regulations and recommends appropriate changes in office practices. Prepares departure memos and benefits separation; conducts exit interviews; ensures firm property is returned. Manages the business professional performance evaluation program and compensation analysis and review; recommends annual salary increases and bonuses for business professionals in conjunction with approved budget. Proposes programs and procedures relating to the effective utilization of business professionals. Timesheet approval and OT entry, approval of and monitor the vacation/PTO schedule to ensure office staffing needs. Attends firmwide HR meetings and plays an active role in ensuring HR functions are complying with local, state, and federal regulations. Communicate interdepartmentally, demonstrate leadership to maintain credibility, confidentiality, trust and support with management and business professionals. Collaborates with the CHRO and Directors of Administration with formulating and instituting office procedures. Coordinates office participation of volunteer programs throughout the year. Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements: Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of related experience. Must have knowledge of the Texas local market and labor laws/policies and procedures. Recruiting experience in a law firm or professional services company preferred. Exceptional organization skills, attention to detail and ability to manage your time and a high volume of work. Strong problem solving and demonstrated analytical skills that allow for interpretation of budgetary, financial, and related management information. Make appropriate, informed decisions regarding priorities and available time. Demonstrated effective communication and leadership skills necessary to maintain effective relationships with partners, attorneys, clients, and staff. Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment. Able to work well independently and on a team. Proficiency in MS Office Suite. Flexibility to work evenings and weekend hours as needed. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of all human resources issues, employee, and firm related matters.
