Position Summary

Under the supervision of the division director, associate dean, and/or Dean, Instructional Affairs, the Instructor teaches students according to established policies and procedures to provide competent and effective classroom and laboratory instruction at varied times and places based on student demand.

SALARY: Based on education and experience commensurate with Salary Schedule D1 IA for 9 months (range: $45,676 to $71,283). Higher education could earn placement on a higher salary schedule.

Additional salary for summer employment (D1 IA for 3 months $14,102 - $22,047). Summer employment is contingent upon student enrollment and the needs of the College. Higher education could earn placement on a higher salary schedule.

This position will be based initially at Wallace in Dothan, Alabama.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: Instruction. Provide competent classroom and laboratory instruction in the area of credentialed expertise.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: Support of College Policies and Procedures. Performs other department activities to ensure efficient, high quality services are provided to WCC.
  1. Teaches classes as assigned in a multi-campus environment as needed.
  2. Posts and maintains regular office hours to ensure accessibility to colleagues and to students for advisement and consultation.
  3. Serves as faculty advisor within the current College advisement system.
  4. Prepares, distributes, and submits syllabi and approved course outlines for all assigned sections in accordance with program and divisional policies.
  5. Maintains confidentiality of student information.
  6. Substitutes for other instructors within field or discipline in case of an absence.
  7. Exercises stewardship of College facilities and materials.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: Participation in College, Division, and Program Activities. Performs other department activities to ensure efficient, high quality services are provided to WCC.
  1. Serves on college, divisional, and program committees as assigned.
  2. Participates in meeting and events required by the college, division, and program administrators.
  3. Responds in a timely fashion to information requests from college, division, and program administrators.
  4. Supports both part-time and full-time colleagues.
  5. Contributes to program and division curriculum development processes.
  6. Participates in graduation ceremonies.
  7. Provides attendance data as required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: Contribution to Growth and Enhancement of College Mission and Programs. Promote positive and productive relationships with service area businesses, industries, and agencies.
  1. Maintains familiarity with College goals, mission and long-range plans.
  2. Contributes to planning and development processes through appropriate mechanisms and channels.
  3. Participates in professional activities that contribute to the educational goals of the College and its constituents.
  4. Performs professional responsibilities in accordance with pertinent goals, missions, and plans of the College, division, and program.
  5. Participates in the marketing, recruitment and retention of students, faculty and staff.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: Professional Development. Continue as competent instructor in the chosen specialty by seeking new knowledge, improving teaching skills, and updating professional competencies.
  1. Updates knowledge and skills in subject matter field and instructional abilities.
  2. Remains current in teaching discipline by one or more of the following methods:
    a. attending workshops, continuing education programs, practicums, and academic courses;
    b. engaging in individual self-study;
    c. actively participating in professional organizations.
  3. Sets professional goals for each rating period.
  4. Performs other related duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: College Expectations. Dependability, attendance, punctuality, and a commitment to do the job right are essential at all times.

Qualifications


  1. Master's degree or higher in Nursing from an accredited institution is required
  2. Current unencumbered licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Alabama is required .
  3. Three years' experience in clinical practice is required .
  4. Prior experience teaching is preferred.
  5. Experience incorporating multi-media instructional techniques into a curricula including instructional technology for web-based teaching and course management utilizing the Canvas platform is preferred.
  6. Experience inspiring and facilitating learning with diverse student populations is preferred.

ADVISORY COMMITTEE: The President will appoint an Advisory and Interview Committee to include representatives of the College faculty and staff. This committee will employ appropriate procedures, including the review of application packets, interview, and demonstration of competency, to determine which applicants are to be recommended to the President for further consideration. From all the applications received, an advisory committee will select the applicants to be interviewed.

Sick Leave
All regular full-time instructional staff earns one day of sick leave which is equivalent to 7 hours per month. Unused sick leave is rolled over to the following year. Retirement
The TRS was established in 1939 to provide benefits to qualified persons employed by state-supported educational institutions.
