Job Description
JOB PURPOSE:
The Metal Mechanic is responsible for safely performing all installation and removal of insulation and metal insulation covers as part of a crew, under the direct supervision of an insulation foreman.
DESCRIPTION OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Perform all installation and removal of insulation and effectively communicate with crew members and supervision.
- Secure insulation with banding, wire, straps etc. in accordance with requirements.
- Perform all installation and removal of metal insulation covers.
- Organize and maintain insulation materials at the work location and in a stock inventory area.
- Prepare surfaces for the installation of insulation by the use of hand and power tools.
- During insulation removal, keep the work area clean and properly dispose of removed insulation and metal.
- Maintain a clean and organized jobsite free from any unnecessary hazards associated with the work being performed by an insulation crew.
- Perform general housekeeping and all assigned duties on a jobsite, as directed by supervision.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• None.
PROTECTIVE CLOTHING REQUIRED:
- Requires the wearing of safety glasses, steel-toed footwear, hard hat, personal fall arrest system (full-body harness) and protective gloves.
- The wearing of hearing protection and site-specific, personal protective equipment, such as a respirator, may be required.
REQUIRED CLOTHING, TOOLS, ETC:

- ANSI Z41 approved, steel-toed work boots with ½ inch defined heel.
- Aviation Snips, Tape Measure, Straight edge, Nippers, Tool Bag & Tool Belt, Scissors, Key-Hole Saw, Serrated Knife & Sheath, Rubber Mallet, Awl Punch, Framing Square, Rasp, Rubber Knife & Sheath, Trammel Points, Bungee Cord, V-Notcher, Bander Tensioner, Impact Drill, Hand Seamer, Knee Pads, Tin Shears
- Additional required clothing, tools etc. may be required due to site specific requirements.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

- At least two years of insulation and metal experience is preferred.
- High School Diploma, General Education Degree (GED), or equivalent.
- The ability to do basic math is desired.
- Basic oral communication skills are required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to talk and/or hear, and/or use hands and fingers to handle or touch objects, tools, or controls. The employee is frequently required to stand, and/or walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move and/or pull up to 50 pounds (up to 100 pounds with assistance) of equipment, material and/or tools which may include lifting 50 pounds (up to 100 pounds with assistance) above shoulders (6-7 feet). The employee must also be capable of continuously carrying/wearing harness and work belt weighing 25-50 pounds while performing essential duties. Must also be capable of climbing onto trailers or trucks and onto racks to secure and move equipment as well as climbing ladders to access scaffolding up to high, precarious places. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

The employee regularly works in high, precarious places, is potentially exposed to fumes, airborne particles, dust, non-weather heat, and toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee is also regularly exposed to outdoor weather conditions and may work in varying degrees of confined space. The noise level is usually moderate, but may be loud at certain times while working at construction job sites. There may be work related travel.
The employee must be available at non-traditional hours to complete projects according to contract or job requirements.
