Description Title: Medical Editor Per Diem Period of Performance: (10/01/2023-9/30/2024 (Additional Option Years Available) Location: Federal Bureau of Prisons, Acquisitions Branch/Central Office Business Office Washington DC Job Discription: - Edit drafts of Clinical Guidance and related documents for spelling, grammar, punctuation, capitalization, hyphenation, terminology, sentence complexity, logical development of ideas, and unnecessary duplication of information or lack of necessary information.
- Critically review original and revised documents for clarity, organization, and accuracy. Provide editorial advice to the project manager on how to simplify and clarify the presentation of complex medical information. As needed, offer suggested wording and reorganization ideas to be considered. Distill or translate complicated narrative information into more usable, visual formats, including: bulleted lists, step-by-step instructions, algorithms, tables, and flow charts.
- Validate references. Ensure that all references are presented in the standard AMA format.
- Create tables of contents, indexes, and insert internal and external hyperlinks to maximize usability and access to other references. Ensure functionality of all hyperlinks.
- Conduct a final proof prior to issuance of each document in Microsoft Word and PDF format.
- Maintain communication with the project manager regarding current projects via email and telephone, as needed.
- Attend occasional onsite planning meetings to discuss in-process and future Clinical Guidance and related documents.
- Create forms, templates, issuance documents, handouts, agenda's or other supportive documents integral to the success of Clinical Practice Guideline Program.

Position Requirements Requirements:
The candidate shall possess the necessary experience, knowledge, and skill required to perform the technical services. Specifically, the contractor shall possess the following minimum requirements to be considered:
- A Bachelor's degree in areas of Communications, Journalism, Education, a healthcare field, English, or related fields.
- At least 5 years of experience as a technical or scientific editor or writer, with an emphasis on instructional writing (as opposed to journalism). At least 3 of these years must be experience in producing documents for medical and/or pharmaceutical practitioners. The skills involved in this experience must lead to presentation of complex, technical information in a clear and straightforward manner.
- At least 5 years of experience editing to ensure that a document is grammatically correct, accurate, and internally consistent, as well as clearly written and logically organized. Ability to edit for: spelling, grammar punctuation, capitalization, and hyphenation; consistent formatting of text (including use of styles and section breaks) and graphics; adherence to standards for terminology and bibliographic reference; sentence complexity and use of active or passive verbs; conciseness, clarity, and logical development of ideas; unnecessary duplication of information or lack of necessary information. In addition, familiarity with the AMA Manual of Style for citation format for references.
- At least 5 years of experience using Microsoft Office, including Microsoft Word. Command of the full range of text formatting tools, including style set-up and use; ability to set up a "style sheet" that enhances readability and clarifies document organization; command of page layout formatting tools, including the use of section breaks that allow for different page layouts, footers, and headers, as needed; ability to design and format tables and flow charts to enhance presentation of data, processes, and other information; ability to create and format automated Tables of Contents based on formatting styles; ability to create citations and footnotes; ability to create PDF versions of Word files; and ability to use the "Track Changes" feature in Word.
- Must submit 3 samples of previous work.
