The Organic Compliance Specialist Program Manager will play an integral role in the establishment of the Organic Compliance Specialist Registered Apprenticeship program. This individual will work closely with PA Department of Labor & Industry's Apprenticeship Training Office (ATO) to register the apprenticeship per L&I specifications. The Program Manager will be responsible for developing the asynchronous curriculum, presenting at PA Apprenticeship and Training Council Meetings for program approval, collaborating on grant reporting, and organizing the facilitation of program content and assessment. This individual will build relationships not only with the selected apprentices, but also with industry professionals and collaborate with Rodale Institute Consultants in the establishment of mentorship roles and on-the-job training. The Program Manager reports to Rodale Institute's Dean of Education and will benefit from collaborations across the institute in support of this program.
The Organic Compliance Specialist Registered Apprenticeship, facilitated by Rodale Institute, aims to provide comprehensive training and hands-on experience in organic agricultural practices and compliance regulations. This apprenticeship program offers individuals the opportunity to develop expertise in ensuring organic integrity throughout the production process, from farm to market. With a focus on sustainability and environmental stewardship, apprentices will gain valuable skills to contribute to the growth and success of organic farming operations.
The Organic Compliance Specialist Registered Apprenticeship program is designed to equip apprentices with the necessary skills and knowledge to thrive in the organic farming industry. Throughout the program, a structured curriculum offers a clear pathway for aspiring organic compliance specialists to acquire hands-on experience, theoretical knowledge, and industry-specific qualification under the mentorship of seasoned professionals. Key components of the program will include classroom instruction, on the job training, field trips and workshops, mentorship and certification preparation.
Responsibilities include: - Develop asynchronous curriculum for the Organic Compliance Specialist Registered Apprenticeship program
- Work closely with the PA Department of Labor & Industry's Apprenticeship Training Office (ATO)
- Register the Organic Compliance Specialist Registered Apprenticeship program per Labor and Industry specifications
- Present for program approval at PA Apprenticeship and Training Council meetings
- Collaborate on grant reporting
- Organize the facilitation of program content and assessments
- Build relationships with apprentices, industry professionals and the Rodale Institute Consulting team
Qualifications: - Well versed in USDA National Organic Program and PCO standards
- Exceptional people skills with a natural propensity to build relationships
- Excited about creating a program from the ground up
- Mission-driven with a roll-up-your-sleeves work ethic
- Coachable, with strong inclination for teamwork and collaboration
- Detail oriented and able to submit grant reports on time
- Excellent communications skills (both written and verbal)
- Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and as well as Google Workspace
- Entrepreneurial, problem-solving mindset
- Previous success in a supervisory, facilitator or educator role
Education: - Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science or similar or equivalent experience
- Successful completion of IOIA Processing, Livestock and/or Crop Certification
- Well versed in food processing standards and procedures
- 3+ years related industry experience
- Ability to work effectively in an asynchronous environment
- Understanding of curriculum development
- Grant writing/reporting experience is a plus!
