DEFINITION :

An RBT - Registered Behavioral Technician; is a specialized Behavior Therapist who provides direct in-home services to individuals diagnosed with Autism and related developmental disabilities (under the supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA).) An RBT Technician provides necessary instruction to participants as well as to assist them with maintaining their independence and safety in the community.

Job Description:

An RBT - Registered Behavioral Technician is expected to implement behavior intervention plans and conduct preference assessments and skill building activities. Behavior Support Specialists collect data and maintain client records in accordance with the specified behavior intervention plan and skill acquisition goals as defined per client. A Behavior Support Specialist can make a difference in their client's lives for the better!

Our clients are diagnosed with a developmental disability and may also have an AXIS I mental health diagnosis and/or a restricted health care condition. Symptoms may include auditor and/or visual hallucinations, paranoia, anxiety attacks, low self-esteem, hyperactivity, poor coping skills, and/or independent living skills. Behaviors may include but are not limited to the following: self-injury, property destruction, tantrums, suicide threat or attempts, physical and/or verbal aggression, attention seeking, fire setting, unauthorized absence, and inappropriate sexual behaviors. Persons with a mental health diagnosis may also have histories of abuse, neglect, substance abuse, and abandonment and be unable to manage in their current settings

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education : Completed Bachelor's degree program with a preference in Psychology, Child Development, Communication Disorders, Education or related field ON YOUR RESUME WITH DATES

Experience : 3+ year's experience implementing behavior intervention services with individuals with special needs ON YOUR RESUME WITH DATES
  • 2+ year's experience working with SEVERELY CHALLENGING BEHAVIORS and implementation of related intervention strategies ON YOUR RESUME WITH DATES
  • Must pass a criminal background check (FBI/DOJ clearance)
  • Minimum of two years' experience working with intellectually disabled adults, prefer ILS experience, or special education teaching experience.
  • An appropriate combination of experience and education may be substituted for some part of the qualifications.
  • Some evidence of competency in training areas we teach.

Requirements:
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • A high-level of energy and a passion for working with a diverse population adults.
  • Reliable means of transportation, valid CA driver's license, registration, and proof of auto insurance
  • Complete company paid training and RBT (Registered Behavior Technician) certification.
  • CPR and First Aid training, or willingness to be trained within 3 days of employment.
  • TB clearance within 3 days of employment.
  • Department of Justice fingerprint clearance (prior to employment).
  • IHSS provider certification in the county(s) of placement within 30 days of employment.
  • Prefer behavioral training, knowledge of Regional Center System servicing developmentally disabled.
  • Referrals from previous employment necessary.
  • Willingness to update any and all personnel certifications, clearances, and reports as required by agency policy or licensing/Regional Center Requirements.
  • Must have a negative Pre-Employment Drug screen

PRIMARY DUTIES :

Interaction/Organizational/Social Skills:
  • Provide 1:1 play-based instruction to clients using techniques from the field of ABA.
  • Travel to client's location to provide services.
  • Attend training's and meetings as requested.
  • Implement behavior intervention plans and conduct preference assessments and skill building activities
  • Collect data and maintain client records in accordance with the specified behavior intervention plan and skill acquisition goals as defined per client.
  • Implement program curricula.
  • Directly deliver individual and group learning experiences to assist each participant served in obtaining his/her IPP objective for which A Bright Future is responsible.
  • Maintain data regarding participant progress.
  • Participate in participant assessment, planning and evaluation processes.
  • Prepare teaching material for Independent Living Skills Training and Support Service sessions.
  • Schedule participant session time and programming according to their Individual Service Plan and the Training domains.
  • See Individual participants in their home to train, teach and provide support in: money management, nutrition, cooking, comparison shopping, emergency procedures, community education, medical procedures, counseling and crisis intervention, and housing.
  • Provided training in rations determined by current vendors, and in accordance with the least restrictive environment philosophy (1:1 staff; client ratio, unless otherwise specified)
  • Coordinate participant training programs with other programs with which they are involved.
  • Report suspected abuse immediately to supervisor, case manager and other appropriate agencies as instructed. Complete special incident report within 24 hours.
  • Keep participant files up to date at the home of the participant.
  • Assist participant in coordinating with other programs, services and benefit systems, such as Social Security, AFDC, WIC, Food Stamps, counseling, Planned Parenthood, etc.
  • Understand and convey, in your interactions with your participants and other agencies, the participant-centered philosophy of A Bright Future.
  • Attend monthly staff meetings, and monthly individual meetings with supervisor.
  • Must be able to relate positively to individuals, their families/conservators, neighbors, Regional Center representatives and other community members
  • Must be mature and emotionally stable
  • Must possess the belief and attitude that all people with developmental disabilities can be served in their communities
  • Must be capable of using language that portrays people with developmental disabilities in a way other than the typical medical model
  • Must possess the belief that a developmental disability is not an illness
  • Must be emotionally capable of examining one's self and one's own issues with power and control when supporting and acting in the service of other people.
  • Must be able to exercise good judgment and initiative in working for people
  • Must be punctual and have a good attendance record
  • Must have the ability to communicate verbally and in writing to supervisors and other team members
  • Must be able to effectively organize a variety of work tasks for self and complete these in priority order
  • Must wear clothing that is appropriate to the occasion and that is not excessively revealing as determined by a board of the employee's peers and customers
  • Must have own transportation, valid California driver's license and insurable driving record and satisfy the minimum State requirement regarding auto insurance.

SECONDARY/OTHER DUTIES :
  • Provide advice, guidance and support to individuals regarding personal issues and life choices
  • Act as an advocate for people served.
  • Act as liaison/consultant to individual's team.
  • Attend Individual Program Plan (annual) and Quarterly meetings.
  • Attend Circle of Support team meetings.
  • Assure that data collection and daily documentation is completed.
  • Assure that the human and civil rights of persons served are being respected at all times.
  • Communicate with day program services as necessary in a polite friendly manner.
  • Assist people to prepare or directly prepare meals and snacks as desired by the individual on a time schedule determined by the individual.
  • Document progress towards ISP/IPP goals, behaviors, medical conditions and any other pertinent information that needs to be shared between the Circle of Support.
  • Responsible to obtain required training and to assure that training is kept current to assure continued employment.
  • Attend training and conferences as requested to assure that Live Scan/DOJ, A Bright Future Inc. acts as leader in the field.
  • Attend all Regional Center audits as requested to assure that auditors
    understand implementation of programs.
  • Adhere to Injury & Illness Prevention Program.
  • Assume responsibility for all other duties as assigned by The Regional Director.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must have the ability to effectively implement First Aid/CPR
  • Must have the ability to work on multiple assignments at one time.
  • Must be capable of pushing, pulling and lifting up to 50 lbs.
