Position summary Our Recombinant Proteins (REP) Business Unit in Cranbury, NJ is part of our Biosciences Division. REP unites deep scientific expertise with a collaborative culture to build a product portfolio that includes cytokines, growth factors, antibodies and ELISA kits used to support the research of our academic, government, biotech, and pharmaceutical customers.
Discover Impactful Work: The Gene Development lab is the first stage in both our research-grade and GMP product development pipelines; The Molecular Biology Scientist's responsibilities include all phases of new E.coli & Cell Culture product development from gene design and sub-cloning through protein expression testing and long term DNA- and cell-banking.
A day in the Life:
- All aspects of gene cloning, expression verification, cell banking of recombinant proteins, growth factors and cytokines, and maintenance for E. coli expression systems
- All record keeping associated with gene product development and cell banking, including DNA and bacterial stock maintenance
- GMP product development including enhanced record keeping and protocol-governed cell banking
- Coordination with other departments, particularly protein production/purification labs (both GMP and RUO) and mammalian gene development lab; occasional collaborative efforts with other institutions as required
- Quality Control-related functions as related to DNA sequencing, etc.
- Coordination with GMP protocol development team as required
- General operation of the laboratory space
- Help develop methods to improve existing techniques and efficiencies
- Maintain accurate, complete, and timely data in laboratory notebooks/electronic notebooks and database.
Education and Experience: - Bachelor's degree in Molecular biology or related field and 5 years lab experience or Master's degree plus 3 years lab experience, or PhD degree plus 1 year lab experience.
- At least 1 year lab experience in gene cloning and expression verification in E. Coli and/or Cell Culture systems required.
- At least 2 years experience in gene cloning and expression verification of recombinant proteins, growth factors, and cytokines, preferred.
- At least 2 years relevant Industry experience in gene cloning and expression a plus
- Experience in gene design, preferred
- Demonstrated technical knowledge of aseptic processing in controlled environments, preferred
Knowledge Skills and Abilities - Knowledge of ISO 9001 standards and certification requirements, preferred
- Strong computer skills as well as ability to collect, organize, and interpret data.
- Strong written and verbal communications skills; ability to interpret, summarize, and present scientific results in a clear, concise, accurate manner
- Ability to multitask, shift priorities and work at a rapid pace.
- Effective organizational skills, including the ability to handle multiple and changing projects and priorities.
- Ability to formulate and solve problems efficiently
- Self-starter to work efficiently and independently and to troubleshoot and tackle problems
- Must be a self-starter, have excellent time management and organization skills
- Proficient in Microsoft computer applications
