GENERAL POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Repair and maintenance of ranch grounds and facilities. Supports the day-to-day operation of all ranch-based departments: Agricultural Science, Veterinary Technology and Equine Programs. Assists in the planning and scheduling of daily job tasks. Receives general direction from the Ranch Supervisor and exercises no supervision.

NOTE: This is a security sensitive position and an appropriate background investigation will be made on applicants being strongly considered for this position.

SELECTION CRITERIA:

Knowledge of: 1. Vehicle and equipment operation, maintenance and repair. 2. General safety procedures while operating farm and lawn equipment; 3. Farm and ranch pasture management, a current Texas Herbicide License is preferred. 4. Basic construction techniques for all types of fencing and livestock shelters. Skills in: 5. Carpentry, basic plumbing, basic electrical, metal work (welding, use of cutting torch). 6. Weed and brush control in hay and grazing pastures. 7. General lawn maintenance including mowing, weed eating, and debris removal. 8. Understand and follow safe trailer towing and loading practices. Ability to: 9. Work independently without constant or direct supervision. 10. Identify repair or maintenance needs on facilities or equipment. 11. Safely operate power tools using proper personal protection equipment. 12. Shows initiative to be productive without being assigned specific tasks. 13. Demonstrates the ability to be a "self-starter". 14. Able to communicate as well as receive verbal direction. 15. Willingness to work together as a team and request assistance when needed.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Exertive-Significant exertion on a daily basis. Awkward positions and sustained activities require strength. Frequent moderate lifting is required. Continual Exposure for Recurring Risk-At least half of each week requires exposure to sensory extremes. Several times weekly there may be exposure to chance of injury or loss of life, requiring additional safety precautions.

QUALIFICATIONS:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education: High school diploma or GED

Experience: Some work experience in farming/ranching, and grounds maintenance.

Special Requirement: Must have and maintain a valid driver's license. Must be insurable and maintain insurability under the College's automobile insurance policy.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience: Farm/ranch work experience or grounds maintenance experience including safe use of equipment maintenance and repair. Be familiar with electrical, plumbing and construction techniques.
