About the Job The Department of Psychology in the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities invites applications for a 50% or 100% FTE Teaching Specialist position for academic year 2024-25. The Department occasionally needs teaching specialists to teach courses that cannot be staffed by regular faculty members or graduate students. This search will establish a "pool" of teaching specialists if such openings occur during the 2024-25 academic year. Applicants may be selected from this pool on an as-needed basis throughout the academic year. For AY24-25, we are particularly seeking applications from those qualified to teach lab or discussion sections of some combination of the following courses: PSY 1001 Intro to Psychology; PSY 3001W Intro to Research Methods; PSY 3801 Intro to Psych Data Analysis; and/or PSY 3901/2/3W Capstone in Psychology or other courses. The candidate should be open to teaching both on campus and online courses. We also seek a candidate with demonstrated commitment to teaching and mentoring a diverse student population. The position will be made at 50% time (two lab/discussion sections) or 100% time (four lab/discussion sections) for the Fall 2024 semester (August 26, 2024 - January 8, 2025) or Spring 2025 semester (January 9 - May 25, 2025) or both, and will be made at the rank of Teaching Specialist (job code 9754). Continued employment beyond this period is contingent on satisfactory performance, curricular and programmatic need, and continued availability of funding for the position. This appointment is subject to the terms and conditions of the Administrative Policy on Academic Appointments with Teaching Functions, and other applicable University policies. Responsibilities:The Department of Psychology is one of the largest departments within the College of Liberal Arts, and is a highly ranked department nationally. Currently, the department has 50 core faculty, 70+ staff, 130 graduate students, and it supports the largest number of undergraduate majors of any academic program on the UMN Twin Cities campus. Additionally, the department has $50 million or more in active research funding at any given time (the majority from NIH), spread across 70 or more projects.
