The Opportunity We are looking for a strategic storyteller with excellent writing skills to create engaging and compelling marketing copy for campaigns, products, events and more intended to serve all members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at every step of their journey.
The copywriter will write marketing copy for our customers in digital and physical spaces across various channels, including but not limited to websites, product descriptions, social and mass media, email, signage, catalog, and more, according to campaign needs. They will also be directly involved in the creation and development of campaign creative briefs, creative and copy for mass media (TV spots and radio ads), and other formats as needed. With a direct connection to our editorial team, they will assist other departments throughout the company as unique writing needs arise.
Major Tasks & Responsibilities: 75% Copywriting/Proofreading . Develop a deep understanding of the Deseret Book communities, products, experiences, and content to create marketing copy that will enable our brand to communicate the right message to the right audience. Write copy for Deseret Book printed marketing and product (catalog, signage, blurbs, programs, etc.) and for digital spaces (websites, product landing pages, emails, social media, etc.)
15% Collaboration & Project Management. Possess the ability to collaborate across multiples times while managing multiple projects at a time. As a collaborative team member, this individual will work closely with marketing, graphic design, product, content, editorial, category management, and intercultural teams to develop marketing copy for materials. Additionally, they must be able to manage multiple projects at once and need to be able to handle pressure.
10% Creative Writing. Assist with unique writing needs in support of the Deseret Book editorial team, LDS Living, and other content channels, communities, and teams.
Required Skills - 4-5 years' work experience in copywriting in a marketing environment or related field and/or bachelor's degree in related field.
- Portfolio with demonstrated ability to adapt to brand voice, connect with distinct audiences, and support brand mission and vision.
- Experience with both creating cohesive marketing copy applied to various formats and settings across a longer-term campaign and writing ad hoc, one-off pieces as needed.
- Great team player who works well in a collaborative environment.
- Detail-oriented: Ability to analyze results, prioritize work, and organize time.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills, with advanced proofreading expertise (competency within the Chicago Manual of Style preferred).
- Proficient with technology, primarily the Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Self-motivated and great self-manager.
